Alex is an actor, musician and writer based in London.

Alex wrote, directed and starred in the sell-out production of FIVER at Southwark Playhouse. He also plays Mattis in Mia and Me.

Alex has appeared in other shows such as The Coffee Shop Musical (The Other Palace/UK Tour), Glory Ride (The Other Palace), The Secret Garden (The Barn Theatre), Apartment 40C (St James Theatre), Aliens Love Underpants (Dominion Theatre and Tour) and Whistle Down The Wind (The Union Theatre).

Alex has taught extensively across the UK and internationally working with all ages of children and young adults. Key work includes teaching/leading workshops at D&B Performing Arts, Central School Of Ballet, Laine Theatre Arts, Emil Dale, West End Stage, The Theatre Workshop, Spirit Youth Theatre, West End Experience, Arts International and more. He is the Musical Director for The Adam Street Singers as well as a pianist/vocalist at Overtures and SingEasy.

He recently worked as Vocal Coach on ITV's Archie which will be released late 2023 staring Jason Isaacs and Laura Aikman.

He has featured in commercials for Smyths Toy Store - Nerf Gun, Merci Chocolate, Wii - Sonic and the Black Knight, Flybe and Apple and has appeared in 2 videos for the Sidemen including arranging and performing the choir version of Christmas Drillings which was the 2022 Christmas number 7!

As a recording artist, Alex has released singles 'Yours', 'Kiss My Brass' and 'Chocolate Bar' as well as EP 'Duvet Days'. In 2016, he won the London based competition 'Pride's Got Talent' where he won over the judges including Sinitta in the grand final at the Charing Cross Theatre. As part of his prize, he performed on the main stage in Trafalgar Square at Pride In London 2017.

In June 2016, Alex went on tour with Les Miserables film star Samantha Barks supporting her UK tour. Alex, also, won the Eurostar prize in the Mayor of London's busking competition, GIGS, where he won a trip to Paris to perform!

He is also the creative director and founder of West End Calling - the musical theatre competition for young performers.

Alex trained at the BRIT School of Performing Arts on the Musical Theatre course from 2008-2010. After this, he trained on the 3 year Musical Theatre course at Mountview Academy Of Theatre Arts.

FIVER

FIVER is a musical by Alex James Ellison which premiered in July 2019 at the Southwark Playhouse.

The sell out run received nominations for numerous awards including Best New Musical at the BroadwayWorld Awards and the West End Wilma Awards and Best Off-West End Production at the WhatsOnStage Awards.

More recently, a live streamed concert version of FIVER was performed during lockdown in November 2020 with that same cast as the original production, and the subsequent ‘live album’ shot straight to number 1 in the iTunes soundtrack charts on it's release day in March 2021.
